A study found that a hot bath to have similar benefits as exercise. Both make the body become hot and burn more calories.
The study recruited a group of participants to test the effects of a hot bath was done by Steve Faulkner from Loughborough University, England. The participants are connected continuously to monitor that records blood sugar levels as well as a thermometer to measure the internal temperature of the body.
In the first study, participants were asked to shower for an hour in hot water having a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and the intake of snacks afterwards. In the second part, participants cycled for an hour session.
The findings suggest that a hot bath for a long time to burn 140 calories which is equivalent to a 30 minute stroll. Although not burn as many calories as cycling, namely 630 calories, Faulkner says it can burn a lot of energy.
"What we found is that the peak glucose decreases after a bath, about 10 percent lower than the exercise," said Faulkner.
