Green Tea Not Suitable With Breast Cancer


Green tea is rich in epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is a powerful antioxidant and helps to prevent and destroy cancer cells. But for breast cancer green tea consumption was not much help.


The study involved 53,793 women who regularly drink in the period 1995-1998 are 2 types of green tea that is Sencha and Bancha / Genmaicha. Of these, 12 percent consume less than a cup of green tea every day while 27 percent consume more than 10 cups per day.


Having observed continuously until the next 14 years, 350 women of whom had breast cancer. When comparing it with green tea drinking habits, the researchers failed to find a strong relationship with risk of breast cancer.


"Drinking green tea does not reduce the risk of breast cancer," said lead researcher, Dr. Iwasaki MOTOKI of Research Center for Cancer Prevention and Screening of the National Cancer Center in Tokyo, as quoted from USAToday, Sunday (14/11/2010).






The conclusion was certainly surprised, because when modern medicine is less effective against cancer then people started to switch to herbs including green tea. Even in the United States, the popularity of green tea have attracted the attention of doctors.

"It's hard to believe that green tea did not provide benefits. Perhaps the research is correct, but specifically for breast cancer and not other types of cancer," said Dr. Stephanie Bernik, cancer surgeon from Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.

Meanwhile, Prof. Jennifer J Hu of the University of Miami would prefer not to assess the efficacy of green tea to excess. In other words, he did not dispute the results of research by Japanese scientists.

"Drinking green tea may help prevent cancer, but if that's all it is not enough to make a difference," said Professor Hu.

Although not paired with breast cancer, the efficacy of green tea has been found. In the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry is mentioned a lot of green tea contains catechins, antioxidants that are very useful for fighting disease.

Green tea is also rich in vitamins such as A, B1, B12, C, E and K. Green tea also has minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc and others.
