Much Organic Food Really Healthier?

Many people believe that organic food is much healthier than non organic foods. But whether it was true?

Foods with organic ingredients are considered good for health and the environment because it does not use traditional chemicals. The farmers and ranchers would prefer to use organic manure or compost, using chemical-free soil, provide organic foods and not using drugs (hormones and antibiotics) for animal livestock, as quoted from everydayhealth.

According to Anne Wolf, RD, a dietitian and researcher at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, foods that contain no chemicals are very good for pregnant women and children. This is because pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of pesticides that can cause damage to the nervous system and behavior problems.

But Wolf admits that eating organic foods does not mean avoid all illness. "It's just a matter of preference," he added.

Use of pesticides for non-organic food is actually safe to eat, chemicals are still in control and within safe limits.

"As long as that is not organic food is not contaminated by the chemicals are dangerous, then the actual nutrient content between organic food or organic are not the same, it makes no difference," says Prof. Dr. M. Safe Wirakartakusumah, as quoted from detikhealth.

Organic foods are more expensive than non organic, because organic food does not last long due to not using pesticides that can prevent food being attacked by pests or other nuisance animals.

So basically, if you decide to eat organic foods, you must pay a little more expensive. But if you want to keep eating non-organic foods, be sure to check the health standards in the packaging and wash all food before it is processed to reduce the chemical content.
