In a new study published in the American Journal of Hypertension, researchers found evidence that high consumption of yogurt can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in people with hypertension. The research involved 55,000 women aged between 30-55 years, and 18,000 men aged between 40-75 years with high blood pressure.

Research led by Justin Buendia of Boston University School of Medicine in Massachusetts, USA, found a higher intake of yogurt may lower the risk of heart attack by 30 percent in women, and 19 percent in men. Men and women who consumed more than two portions of yogurt a week also had a 20 percent lower chance of suffering from coronary heart disease or stroke.

Researchers say a higher intake of yogurt combined with a heart-healthy diet may lower the risk of greater cardiovascular disease in men and women suffering from high blood pressure. "Men and women with hypertension who consume at least two servings of yogurt every Sunday week, especially in the context of a healthy diet, are at lower risk for developing cardiovascular disease," Justin Buendia said.
