Lemon is one of the recommended fruits for people with diabetes mellitus (people with diabetes) because it is rich in fiber and low in sugar. On the other hand, the lemon skin also contains a good hesperidin compound for blood vessels.
"Hesperidin can prevent the plaque in blood vessels, and he becomes elastic in his blood vessels," explained clinical nutrition specialist from MRCCC Siloam Hospitals Semanggi dr Samuel Oetoro Ms spgk (K) in commemorating World Diabetes Day with Bistro Baron and Imam Bondjol House in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/11).
However, the consumption of lemon peel in the community is not common. For one thing, lemon skin tends hard and has a bitter taste. Some people outsmart the way to 'consume' lemon and skin by making infused water from pieces of lemon.
Samuel says infused water has no health benefits. In other words, the various nutrients contained in the lemon can not be absorbed optimally through infused water. "No use, just (add) flavor, lemon flavor," continued Samuel.
Samuel revealed a simple way to consume lemon and skin. The simple way is to make lemon juice at once with the skin.
To make this juice, simply cut the lemon with the skin, then juice or blender with extra water. Samuel does not suggest the addition of sweeteners including honey to this lemon juice.
"Acid, but acid is only in the mouth, in the stomach he will be healthy, except for those who have a history of ulcers," said Samuel.
Samuel said the finished lemon juice should be drunk and consumed. In addition, Samuel says each fruit has a different nutrient content and is also needed by the body.
Therefore, Samuel also stressed the importance of consuming a variety of fruits. "Consumption of fruit five servings (one day), if it can be colorful," said Samuel.
