WHO: The Gay and Transgender At Most affected by AIDS

WHO warned that the epidemic of HIV / AIDS will not be insurmountable, unless perebakan disease among homosexuals, transgender people and other vulnerable groups is reduced.

Director of the HIV / AIDS at WHO, Dr. Gottfried Hirnschall, said the homosexual and transgender people are most affected by AIDS since the epidemic began 39 years ago, and it continues today.

He says HIV emerged more recently among homosexuals, especially in industrialized countries. But, he said the data showed the emergence of new epidemics of HIV among homosexuals in Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.

"The facts show that homosexual estimated 20 times more likely to be infected with HIV than the average of the general population. Forty percent were estimated to have HIV-positive homosexuals in some countries and regions. We know that the population of transgender people also have been infected. Levels ranged from 8 to 68 percent, an incredible amount, "said Dr. Hirnschall quoted Voice of America.

Doctors say the new guidelines Hirnschall WHO aims to help states and communities improve the services needed to reduce new infections among vulnerable groups are. These guidelines consist of 21 recommendations that suggest practical ways to improve access to HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.

HIV experts said the guidelines should be considered as a comprehensive package of services. They added the greatest impact of the reduction of HIV transmission would look if all the recommendations implemented.
