Researchers at the Polytechnic University of Marche (UNIVPM) in Italy and the University of Granada (UGR) in Spain found that strawberries can increase red blood cell response to cope with oxidative stress which is the root cause of several diseases.
The research involves a number of volunteers who were asked to consume 500 grams of strawberries for a period of two weeks. Their blood samples collected after day 4, the 8th, 12th, and 16th. The test report shows, the daily intake of fruit can increase blood plasma antioxidant power while enhancing the ability of the resistance of red blood cells against oxidative stress.
The researchers explained that certain types of strawberries can really help in combating oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is a state when the amount of free radicals in the body exceeds the body's capacity to neutralize it.
Consequently, the intensity of oxidation processes of normal body cells become increasingly higher and cause more damage. Medical literature to prove that oxidative stress is a major cause of premature aging.
