Benefits of Watermelon Juice

Watermelon juice has long been popular among athletes, but researchers are only now giving reason to continue eating watermelon juice. It is believed that the content of amino acid L-citrulline found in watermelon, able to speed up the recovery time of athletes and can also improve their performance.

In a news story published by the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry as reported duniafitnes.com site, the researchers explain that watermelon has antioxidant properties and the potential to increase muscle protein, and this is the first time researchers have analyzed the effectiveness of watermelon juice fortified with L -citrulline.

The research team led by Dr. Encarna Aguayo, PhD., From the University of Cartagena Engineeing-Food Program, Spain, carried out tests on the volunteers were given two drinks an hour before exercise, some of the volunteers were given watermelon juice naturally contains L-citrulline and some are given an energy drink which does not contain L-citrulline.


The result showed that L-citrulline in watermelon natural juice is better for the body, it is because the natural chemicals can accelerate the process of elimination of lactic acid which is known to cause a burning sensation in the muscles and cause pain. Elsewhere researchers from Purdue University, USA, also believe that watermelon can stop the "bad" cholesterol (LDL) which can lead to clogged arteries and may lead to a person experiencing heart failure.

The researchers also found that eating watermelon on a regular basis to help control one's weight and eliminate the accumulation of fat in the blood vessels. They believe that the secret lies in the health of watermelon contains L-citrulline in watermelon juice contained.
