For some people, coffee is a must, but you should be careful with the amount you drink each day. High coffee consumption associated with an increased risk of death in people aged under 55 years, according to a study.
The
study, published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings, got
statistically 21 percent increase in deaths in those who drank more than
28 cups of coffee per week or four cups of coffee per day.
By
age group, the risk of death from all causes (heart disease, diabetes,
and others) rose more than 50 percent for both for men and women younger
than 55 years. However, according to researchers there is no major impact is found in heavy coffee drinkers aged over 55 years.
In
the study, researchers from the University of South Carolina examined
coffee consumption of more than 43,000 people aged between 20 and 87
years from 1971 to 2002. During the middle of the study period lasted 17 years, more than 2,500 participants died.
The
study found that younger men have a tendency toward greater mortality
rate even if they consume less coffee, Xinhua reported. The risk increased by 56 percent when they consume 28 cups per week.
While,
according to the study, young women who consumed more than 28 cups of
coffee per week doubled the risk of dying from all causes compared with
young women who did not drink coffee.
"There's
a warning for those who drink large amounts, there should be a warning,
because this dose is associated with increased total mortality in this
large study, especially in people over the age of 55 years," said Xuemei
Sui of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, and study co-author.
Old coffee allegedly contributed to a variety of chronic health conditions. Several previous studies linking coffee consumption with mortality.
"No
organization has a definite suggestions for safe consumption of coffee.
Much of the information is based on studies that have been published
and have not reached definitive conclusions," said Sui.
"I
study, is safe to drink coffee in the low dose (one to two cups and
perhaps two to three cups per day), and even low dose saving potential
benefits."
