Watermelon Helps Overcome Erectile Dysfunction

Various experiments for the treatment of erectile dysfunction are carried out with diverse results. The initial stage of a study reviewed professor and holistic health practitioner from Walden University, Dr. Debra Rose Wilson said that watermelon has the potential to replace viagra to treat erectile dysfunction.

Viagra has been helping men with sexual problems to get a satisfying sex life. However, some men feel the side effects of consuming them, ranging from chest pain to heart disease.

For men who cannot consume Viagra, watermelon can be a safe alternative without serious side effects. Why? This tropical fruit contains citrulline, an amino acid that encourages men's erectile abilities better.

Viagra increases blood flow to the penis, allowing men to erect more easily. Citrulline does the same thing, although the way it works is different from Viagra.

Numerous studies have shown the body converts citrulline to watermelon into an arginine type amino acid. Arginine then transforms into nitric oxide which opens wider blood vessels, increases blood flow to the penis, and finally overcome erectile dysfunction.

Because watermelon contains a lot of water, the highest concentration of citrulline comes from concentrated watermelon juice. The stages of this research were carried out in 2011-2017.

Reporting from Medical News Today, Thursday (8/30), the 2011 study followed 24 men with mild erectile dysfunction disorders. They were researched for one month after taking citrulline supplements regularly. As a result, only two men whose erection rates remained abnormal after taking citrulline supplements. Half the other men experience an erection increase to normal levels.

Men before being given citrulline only had an average sex activity of 1.37 times per month. After treatment, they can undergo 2.3 times of sexual activity per month without side effects.

The 2013 study collected data on rats with arteriogenic erectile dysfunction. Mice that took supplements in the form of citrulline water experienced an improvement in erectile function than those who did not.

The 2014 study evaluated male rats treated with watermelon extract. Mice that consumed watermelon were more likely to increase the sexual fluid of female mice. Since then researchers have seen watermelon very likely to be a treatment for erectile dysfunction.

2017 research understands more in the role of citrulline and arginine in erectile function. Researchers measured the levels of these two amino acids in 122 men with erectile dysfunction.

The content of citrulline in yellow or orange watermelon is greater than that of red watermelon. The concentration of citrulline in watermelon skin is higher than that of the flesh. There is no significant difference between seedless watermelon varieties or seeded watermelon.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not officially labeled Citrulline as one of the drugs for erectile dysfunction. Further testing is needed, until the doctor determines whether the citrulline can work or not.
