7 Signs of your thyroid are not functioning properly

Thyroid dysfunction is a dangerous disease that affects body function but many people don't realize it. Problems begin to clot when lumps form at the base of the thyroid gland which affect normal production of important hormones.

Difficulty in maintaining weight, thinning hair and irregular blood pressure are the most prominent signs of the thyroid. But there are some lesser-known signs, most of which are ignored which can indicate problems in the early stages as reported by the Times of India.

1. Fatigue

Do you feel tired and exhausted every day? You might just ignore this but it might have something to do with the thyroid. An underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism can limit hormone production and lead to low levels of energy, which can cause fatigue even after getting the right sleep or doing nothing throughout the day.

2. Depression

When the thyroid becomes inflamed, hormone production also increases and fluctuations in these hormones can cause mood changes which is one of the first signs of depression. Depending on the person's condition, hormone production can even trigger anxiety in some people and interfere with your mental health.

3. Constipation

Facing intestinal irritation or occasional constipation is called normal. However, when problems occur regularly, it is possible that the thyroid is to blame. When the thyroid is not functioning properly, affecting one of its main functions is maintaining metabolism. When hormone production is low, constipation is triggered. Maybe it's time for you to examine your thyroid.

4. Sweating

Equally important, with sweating is for proper body function, random attacks sweating, even in cooler environments can be very unhealthy. When energy leveling hormones are compromised, sweating can increase and make you feel warm even in cooler environments.

5. Dry skin

Everyone has different skin conditions and most, we consider dry skin as an indication of weather changes. But, the thyroid also plays a role here. In some cases, this can cause excessive sweating but in some cases, it may be difficult to regulate perspiration and the lack of moisture caused by not sweating can cause dry and scaly skin.

6. Affect the senses

Yes, the thyroid can also affect your sense of smell and taste. If you find yourself not liking food choices that were once your favorite, it is a sign that something is wrong with your thyroid. This can produce an excess of several hormones, which can make you lose your appetite suddenly.

7. Changes in the monthly cycle

Although there is no direct connection to the thyroid that affects menstruation, incompatibility in hormone levels can affect your cycle. When a woman, facing thyroid problems loses her appetite, it can make her suffer from anemia and loss of red blood cells and indirectly affect menstruation. All forms of irregularity must be treated immediately.
