In a recent study conducted by researchers from the University of Lund, Sweden, eating broccoli was found to reduce blood sugar. Broccoli is finally considered to help people with Diabetes Mellitus disease (DM) to be able to control their blood sugar.
There are at least 300 million people with type 2 diabetes worldwide. As many as 15 percent of the total amount can not run metformin therapy because it has a risk of kidney damage.
In order to find a better solution, researchers from Lund University identified a number of compounds that can counteract the expression of genes caused by the disease. One of the researchers, Annika Axelsson, carried out the specific gene construction of type 2 DM.
This construction is based on 50 existing hen data. Then, these data are used to look for compounds that have the potential to fight the disease. One of the most promising chemical compounds to do such is sulforaphane, which is usually found in vegetables.
This compound can decrease the production of blood sugar by growing cells in the liver. In addition, these compounds also alter gene expression in the liver, especially those who have experienced abnormalities due to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
