Diabetes patients, avoid foods high in fat

Eating foods with high fat content should be avoided, particularly patients with type 2 diabetes. Recent research scientists in the UK indicated that consumption of foods high in fat may increase the risk of inflammation in people with type 2 diabetes.

As is known, inflammatory (inflammation) in patients with diabetes have a connection with an increased risk of complications, such as heart disease. In the study, researchers recruited 54 volunteers 15 of whom were obese, 12 with impaired glucose tolerance (pre-diabetes), 18 with diabetes type 2, and 9 healthy and not obese people - who consume high-fat diet after fasting overnight.

The researchers also compared the levels of endotoxin in the blood of participants before and after they eat. Is a fragment of bacterial endotoxin into the bloodstream from the intestine, which have been associated with inflammation and heart disease risk.

The findings show, all participants had higher levels of endotoxin increases after eating fatty foods, but participants with type 2 diabetes had significantly higher levels of endotoxin than those who were healthy and without obesity. Although the study does not indicate causality, but these findings may explain how obesity and type 2 diabetes affects inflammation in blood vessels and other tissues. In addition, these findings may also help scientists to develop new ways to prevent damage that may result.

"Health is not just about weight, because a particular diet can also increase the risk of inflammation in some patients and those at risk of heart disease," said the researcher, Alison Harte, of the University of Warwick, UK, who will memresentasikan these findings at the annual meeting of the Society for Endocrinology .
