How it Works Turmeric Prevents senile

The presence of turmeric as a base material for making food such as curry spice, is already familiar. But are you aware that turmeric also kept hidden benefits, especially in preventing disease or senile dementia?

Yes, a recent research indicates that eating curry regularly can reduce the risk of developing health conditions associated with aging such as dementia.

The experts from Linkoping University, Sweden, suggested, put the curry into the daily menu as much as once or twice a week is enough to reduce the likelihood of someone suffering from dementia in later life. Researchers argue, the high content of curcumin in turmeric plays a very important and is the main agent which prevents the occurrence of dementia.

In his research, scientists from Sweden conducted a series of scientific experiments and testing the potential benefits of curcumin in fruit flies. The results were very surprising, because it flies that received some of curcumin are constantly having a longer lifespan (75 percent) than flies that did not receive curcumin treatment.

These findings were published in February in the journal PLoS One. Researchers said the findings as well as a scientific explanation of why the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia are very rare in some Asian countries.

How it works

The scientists underline that curcumin could not break the formation of amyloid plaques - protein in the brain that destroy nerve cells - they play an important role in accelerating the development of nerve fibers. Compound in curcumin also believed the experts can reduce the formation of oligomers, medium-sized molecules that form in the nerve fibers that are harmful to nerve cells.

Prof Per Hammarstrom, one of the leaders of the study, said the fact there are a number of theories that explain how the oligomer so that it can lead to degenerative processes in the brain. One of them, for example, oligomers trapped in the stimulation of nerve fibers and damage the signal coming from the brain.

Consequently, the stimulation signal to be blocked, and this is where curcumin works by improving the process. Hammarstrom added that there are many health benefits of curcumin include increasing function of the digestive system, lowers the risk of cardiovascular problems such as heart attack or thrombosis, as well as natural painkillers.
