Excessive milk consumption Causes of Kidney Disease

Milk consumption exceeds the recommended daily amount would endanger health. One is lead to kidney disease.

"Milk is a source of calcium which is needed by the body, but too much calcium intake can overload the kidneys," says clinical nutrition specialist and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Dr. Dr. Saptawati Bardosono, MSc, Tuesday.

Too much calcium intake is going to trigger the onset of kidney problems such as kidney stones. Calcium is not absorbed by the body, will be wasted through the urethra to maintain balance in the body.

However, previous calcium will be deposited on the kidneys filter, this is what causes the formation of crystals in the kidney stone called calcium oxalate or calcium phosphate.

"So it should consume enough milk one or two drinks per day for a normal person, because there are good sources of calcium from other foods in addition to milk," said Saptawati.

Based on the needs in general, men only need 1,200 to 1,000 mg of calcium each day.

While women need about 1200mg to 1500 mg of calcium per day, and the kids need 1.300mg of calcium per day. The highest intake of calcium should be consumed per day is 2,500 mg.
