A low carbohydrate diet or diet that limits carbohydrate consumption is on the rise. Claimed to quickly lose weight, many people are interested in trying to run this diet. However, is this diet safe for health?

There are a variety of low-carb diets, but what is popular today is the ketogonic diet. Adherents of this diet restrict carbohydrates and increase fat intake. Apparently, this kind of diet can make the body become weak.

Nutritionists also consider this diet to be a boomerang for health. "The body gets the energy it needs by breaking down carbohydrates from the foods we eat, but because of these vital nutritional deficiencies, the body will begin to break down fat," says Rachel Clare, a registered dietitian.

It does sound good. But when the body breaks down fat, it releases ketones, which are molecules produced by the liver from fatty acids.

These high levels of ketones can cause dehydration and alter the chemistry of blood. What's more, a low-carb diet is difficult to survive in the long run so it causes your weight to fluctuate. All of these things are bad for health.

"In some small medical cases, the ketogenic diet actually benefits, as for epilepsy, but for the general public, ketogenic diets are quite harmful," Clare says.

Then, how to diet right? To lose weight, doctors recommend to exchange your favorite simple carbohydrates with complex carbohydrates such as whole cereal, brown rice, or oatmeal. If you still want to go on this diet, the Ketogenic Diet Should Be Under Doctor's Control.

When in doubt with the type of carbo to choose from, search for a brand that includes the word "intact" in front of the main ingredient. At least every food has 3 grams of fiber per serving. This way will make the stomach does not starve and health is maintained.
