Who would have thought, these four foods turn out to be Superfood

Increased public awareness for healthy living makes superfood more and more hunted. Avocado, salmon, coconut until the acai berry is a small part of the superfood that has been popular and became prey to health observers.

Nutritionist Ellie Krieger says the superfood trend can have a positive impact on health care. Incorporating the 'superfood' into the diet can be a good step to achieve a balanced diet of nutrition. "Focusing on some superfoods can lead you in the right direction," explains Krieger.

Krieger says some people may think that 'superfood' is limited to green leafy foods only. Though there are many types of 'superfood' that can be found by the community. Some types of superfood even a food that is rarely recognized by the public as a superfood. Here are some of them.

Peanut Pecan

Pecan nuts have a high content of antioxidants and minerals. In addition, this nut is also rich in vitamin E which serves to ward off free radicals. Vitamin E is also predicted to reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration, fatty liver disease, cataracts, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.

But the health benefits of nuts is also dependent on the way of processing. Pecan nuts may be less healthy if processed into a sweet and sugary pie.

One of the healthy ways to eat pecans is to mix it into yogurt as breakfast. Pecan nuts can also be used as a fish coating to replace bread.

"There are so many ways you can put it in a smoothie and I recently made jam from a pecan that tastes really good," says Krieger.

Oats

Oats are not just 'sounding' healthy, but they do have health benefits. Oats from whole grains are known to have high protein. Whole grain oats are also known to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, lower bad cholesterol and help control blood pressure.

What makes oats bear the 'title' as a superfood is a fiber content called beta glucan. Beta glucan is a soluble fiber and has been proven in several studies to help prevent heart disease.

Oats can also be processed with a variety of healthy ways, one of which becomes additional in the smoothie. Krieger also said oats could be used to replace rice when making risotto.

Kefir

Kefir is a combination of bacterial fermentation and yeast that has gained popularity since the last few years. Kefir is known to be high in nutrients and probiotics so it is good for digestion and stomach health.

Krieger said the consumption of probiotic-rich foods every day is very good. Kefir is one that he recommends because it is very similar to yogurt drink. Krieger describes kefir as a fabulous meal with great benefits.

"In addition to probiotics, kefir has a protein and calcium content such as dairy products in general," said Krieger.

Tilapia

Tilapia is a common name for the types of cichil fish, one of which is tilapia. Tilapia is known to have a high protein content and low calorie. One serving of tilapia, about 3.5 ounces has a protein of 26 grams with calories of 128 grams. Krieger said the mild tilapia flavor is generally much liked by people, even people who do not like fish.

"Tilapia is very good because it is rich in minerals and lean protein, people who eat two servings of fish per week tend to be healthier than those who do not," said Krieger, quoted by Fox News.
