Green Tea Consumption Can Prevent Heart Attacks

Are you a green tea lover? In addition to beneficial weight loss and improve immunity, green tea seems to have other benefits.

Green tea is rich in antioxidants can actually prevent death from heart attacks and strokes due to atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a narrowing of the artery wall due to the piles of fat, cholesterol, and other substances.

Based on recent research, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) content in green tea can break down and dissolve dangerous proteins in blood vessels. "The benefits of green tea for health are well known: EGCG may alter amyloid structures that correlate with Alzheimer's disease," said Professor at Lancaster University, UK, David Middleton, quoted by the Indian Express on Sunday (3/6).

Middleton said the results of his research showed that the same content is also able to fight the signs of heart attacks and strokes. Jeremy Pearson as a professor and Associate Medical Director at the British Heart Foundation revealed the same thing.

"With a little modification, we could have made new drugs for those who have heart attacks and strokes," Pearson said.

The study has been published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. The results showed that ECGC binds amyloid fibers to a protein called apolipoprotein A-1 (apoA-1) that converts fibers into soluble molecules.

Thus, the walls of blood vessels will not be constricted. Scientists are now trying to find ways to find effective amounts of ECGC to nourish blood vessels without having to drink green tea in large portions.
