Oyster Mushrooms Can Reduce Risk of Osteoporosis

Each year there are approximately 8.9 million cases of osteoporosis which mostly occurs in women aged over 50 years.

Use of synthetic drugs that are often used to reduce the process of resorption and prevent osteoporosis there are many causes side effects.

This is the background for five students of Faculty of Pharmacy to look for other alternatives to the use of natural ingredients safer, effective, and efficient, ie utilizing the oyster mushrooms.

Yana Bintoro Priambodo, Rien Larasati Arini, Aida Fathia, Devyanto Hadi, and Mega Asri daughter was doing research that aims to understand the process of osteoclastogenesis inhibitory effect of oyster mushroom extracts in vitro and in silico.

"In the case of osteoporosis, an imbalance of osteoblast and osteoclast be the main drivers of this disease. If the formation of osteoclasts (osteoclastogenesis) can be inhibited, then the process of bone resorption is reduced," said Yana, Tuesday (2/8).
