Exercise extra hard for this seems to be the most popular way the body burns calories.
However, new research reveals, there was a simple way to burn more calories when you walk.
The amount of combustion also varies, depending on the speed of your walk. A study conducted by scientists from Ohio State University (OSU) in the US shows, changing the walking speed can increase a person's metabolic rate about 20 percent higher than when running at a constant speed or fixed.
"If the rate of metabolism in the body increases, it means there are more calories burned" said one of the experts involved in the study, Professor Manoj Srinivasan, as quoted by the Independent on Saturday (17/10).
The study also showed people naturally will increase their walking speed when traveling a long distance. Instead, their speed will slow down when the distance is shorter.
