Plants ciplukan Prevent Breast Cancer

Plant ciplukan a clump of plants that are easily found on the farm was able to prevent breast cancer. Plants with latin name Physallisa angulata L has cytotoxic effects and suppressed the growth of cancer cells in vitro.

Ciplukan Fisalin and Withanolid containing compounds that was allegedly from the various reports containing anticancer activity. These plants also are cytotoxic in several cancer cells, could inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells MDA-MB 231, cell NCL-H23 lung adenocarcinoma, leukemia cells, and have anthihepatoma activity of human hepatoma cells Hep G2, Hep 3B, and PLC / PRF / 5.

"From research conducted confirm if ciplukan has the potential to be developed as an agent kemopreventif," said Ameilinda Monikawati on the campus of the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday (12/01/2010).

Benefits of these plants proved to inhibit breast cancer cells after the extract used. Extracts obtained from the fruit processing ciplukan which has eliminated the root.

Ameilinda said kemopreventif activity etanolik herb extracts ciplukan be an alternative treatment of breast cancer patients. While breast cancer treatment with chemotherapy has been considered less effective. With chemotherapy often results in the resistance, as well as some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, toxicity to normal tissue, cardiac toxicity suppress the immune system.

"Because it takes an alternative cancer therapy safer, more affordable and effective," he said.

In vitro from this study successfully suppress cancer cell growth by 20 percent. It's just not only in vitro, to support the research potential as an agent ciplukan kemopreventif on breast cancer test is also conducted in vivo. In vivo test is aimed to observe the effect of EHC on test animals strain Sprague Dawley female rats.

Test in vivo, said Amelianda done through observation hispatologi breast cells with Hematoxylin & Eosin staining method, and the activities antiproliferasi EHC with AgNOR method in DMBA-induced rat. The results showed that EHC could inhibit the process of DMBA and have karsiogenesis antiproliferatif activity by showing black dots (mAgNOR value) compared with the DMBA control group.

From research conducted Amelianda, Inna and Sofa conclude ciplukan potential for development as an agent kemoprevensi breast cancer through the induction of apoptosis and inhibition of cell proliferation. Also ciplukan can be used also as co-agent chemotherapy with doxorubicin.

"Because of the selectivity test and expression in a variety of proteins involved in triggers apoptosis and cell cycle regulation is necessary to know the security and molecular mechanisms in inhibiting the growth of breast cancer," said Amelianda.

From the research of three students of the Faculty of Pharmacy namely Ameilinda, Inna Amandari and Sofa Farida successfully tested the potential kemopreventif etanolik herb extracts ciplukan (EHC) in breast cancer cells. Thanks to these studies, the three students were declared to be a winner I of Natural Science (IPA) at the Indonesian Young Researcher Competition Selection (PPRI) to-9 in 2010, while entitled to a cash prize of Rp 12 million.
