'Junk Food' Make Like Drug Addiction

Fast food or junk food are often called can be addictive as drugs and stimulate desire. It was obtained from brain scans.

The results showed a high glycemic carbohydrate limit can cause blood sugar to spike and help curb overeating and obesity. The scientists examined how food intake is regulated by the pleasure center in the brain associated with addiction.

Function of magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used to observe the brain activity of volunteers who are overweight for four hours after eating. This important period shows the influence of behavior when food is eaten. A total of 12 people were given a test with a milk shake with the same flavor.

"The findings suggest that restricting carbohydrates with a high glycemic index like white bread and potatoes can help obese people reduce cravings and control the urge to overeat," said head researcher David Ludwig of the Foundation Obesity Prevention Center in Boston, USA. The study reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
