Plum, Fruit Prevent Osteoporosis

Many ways can be done by adult women to prevent osteoporosis or bone loss. Among them, there are regular exercise, drinking high-calcium milk, using supplements, or special diet.

But now there is a way that is simpler and may need to be considered. The way it is eating a plum. According to a recent study, women who regularly eat the plums seem to be able to benefit for bone health. Plum is also known to have anti-cancer compounds are found to increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
Experts from the Florida State and Oklahoma State University conducted an experiment involving 100 women pascamenopouse. A total of 55 women were asked to consume 100 grams of prunes every day for 12 months, while the remainder were asked to consume 45 grams of dried apples instead of plums. Each day, participants also receive a supplement containing 500 mg of calcium and vitamin D 400IU.
The analysis showed that women who ate prunes have the higher bone density at the ulna (arm bone) and spine compared with those who consume apples.
One researcher, dr. Bahram Arjmandi believe, eating plums can help suppress the rate of resorption (destruction) of bone, which usually exceeds the rate of growth of new bone in the elderly.
"During my career, I have been testing some fruits, including figs, dates, strawberries, and raisins, and none of these fruits have the effect of bone density, but the dried plums or prunes have it (the effect of bone density)," he said.
Scientists, whose findings were published in the British Journal of Noutrition, describes the effects of fatherly plum bone health as an exceptional case and urged people to start eating fruit every day.
