Shoes created especially for diabetics. Shoes, in addition to providing security from threats that could aggravate the condition of patients affected by diabetes, also provide comfort.

"Shoes are designed to prevent injury or the addition of diabetic foot wounds," said Vivi Leona, a nursing student who was involved in research. Minor injuries could become a scourge for diabetics. Injuries, especially in the legs, can rapidly spread and often end up with amputation.
Based on various studies, 99.9 percent of the use of improper footwear can lead to diabetic ulcers, wounds smell that often occurs in the bottom of the patient. Often people do not realize when he was hit by injuries due to not functioning in certain parts of nerves.
Leather shoes developed by a joint team of the various sciences at the University of Gadjah Mada is made using quality materials, the cow and goat skin. Leather is considered good because it can comfortably adjust the moisture condition of patient's feet. In addition, there are foam or similar material merimes fabric that serves to reduce friction with the shoe the foot, thereby reducing kelecetan.
Another specialty of this shoe can also be adjusted to the size of the patient's feet. Before these shoes are made, the patient's legs will be measured and examined from swelling, injury, or allergy. "Shoes will be made according to size. There is the possibility of different right and left shoe size. This is different from the shoes on the market, "said Vivi.
There are three types of models produced leather shoes: shoes for normal feet without injury (the basic ingredients of cow skin), swollen legs and sores (the basic ingredients of goat skin), and leg amputation (the basic ingredients of goat skin). Vivi added in the middle of the shoe that works there are air holes for ventilation so that the feet are not hot and humid. There are also ribbons pengecang to help patients manage comfort while wearing the shoes.
Vivi hope these shoes can be mass produced all over Indonesia. A pair of shoes has a price range of up to Rp 500,000 Rp400.000. Vivi ensure his team-made shoes can contribute to improving patient quality of life.
Septu Thanks to this, the development team, consisting of Vivi, Erlisa Diah Pertiwi, Ade Oktiyanto Saputro, and Arini Giska Safitri, won gold in the XXIV National Science Week Students in Makassar, July 22.
