Tomatoes Can Reduce Depression

A study shows that eating tomatoes several times a week are proven to reduce depression.

The study was conducted by a team of researchers from China and Japan, led by Dr Kaijun Niu from China's Tianjin Medical University.

This study sought to investigate the effects of lycopene contained in tomatoes for psychological and physical health of human beings, especially to reduce stress.



As quoted from page Daily Mail, the research carried out by analyzing records of mental health and eating about a thousand people, both men and Japanese women aged 70 years and over.

As a result, the research team found that people who eat tomatoes, at least two to six times a week, reduced their risk of developing depression as much as 46 percent.

Meanwhile, if you eat tomatoes every day, can cut the risk of depression by 52 percent.

However, this study proves, other fruits and vegetables did not provide a similar advantage.

More than 20 percent of the world experience depression at some point. In this case, women are more prone to depression than men.

Tomatoes are a source of antioxidants that can protect the body from various diseases. Lycopene contained in tomatoes, acts as an antioxidant that is proven to reduce the risk of prostate cancer and heart disease.
