Why Baby Hair Loss?



Hair loss problem seems not only adult problems. Newborns was also able to experience the same thing. But you must know, that hair loss in infants is generally normal.

Babies tend to lose their hair early in life. As with adults, infants also experience hair growth period and rest. In the case of a newborn all the hair follicles enter a period of rest at the same time. But there are certain conditions that can cause hair loss in newborns. Here are the causes of hair loss in infants:


* Tinea capitis, commonly known as ringworm of the scalp and is a fungal infection that commonly seen in children. This looks like a scaly patches and may look like black dots on the scalp.

* Alopecia Areata, this is a condition that causes hair loss allegedly caused by the immune system attacks the hair follicles.

* Trichotillomania is hair loss as a result of a strong impetus for pulling hair. Trichotillomania is a compulsive behavior, which may stem from the emotional stress or physical stress.


* Sleeping position. Sleeping in the same position for several hours at a time can also be one cause of the loss of a baby's hair.


* Stress, fever, and hormonal changes. Approximately 5 to 15 percent of the hair on the scalp will usually have a resting phase at any one time. But stress, fever or hormonal changes can cause large amounts of hair stop growing once. Dates in the baby's hair generally begins when entering the stage of growth at about the age of three months.

* Malnutrition: Vitamin H or Biotin is a vitamin B complex which helps the body to convert carbohydrates into glucose to fuel the body. Zinc, essential minerals, which are involved in various aspects of cellular metabolism. It also supports the growth and development of the baby's hair during pregnancy, childhood and adolescence.

Endocrine problems: In some children, the causes of hair loss is caused by hypothyroidism. A condition where the thyroid gland is underactive and the low amount of thyroid hormone to meet metabolic needs.

To overcome the problem of hair loss in infants, you can work around this with a variety of ways:

* Use a pillow in your baby with a horseshoe shape.

* Massage with oil. Massaging your baby's head with oil does not prevent hair loss, but may help in blood circulation in the scalp.

* Shave. Shave baby's hair does not mean there is no guarantee hair grow thicker or less kerontokannya. But with hair shaved at least there is the possibility of having no hair loss at all.

* If possible you can try to change the baby's sleeping position after some time.

* If your baby's hair loss continues, better consult a pediatrician and let the doctor in charge.
