40 Million Smokers would Died of TB

Some 40 million smokers are expected to die of tuberculosis in 2050. As is known smokers at greater risk of suffering from lung infection and died from it.

Most cases of tuberculosis (TB) has more in Afria, Eastern Mediterranean and Southeast Asia. Lung Health Foundation said the global effort to reduce the number of new TB cases lost by the aggressive promotion of the tobacco industry.

"It has been 20 years since WHO declared TB as a disease that is dangerous. Since then the number of sufferers is more frequently increased than diminished and the smokers are two-fold risk for the disease and died," said Dr. John Moore-Gillon, tuberculosis experts from the UK.


Estimated number of TB patients was conducted by Dr.Sanjay Basu and his team from the University of California.

Nearly one-fifth of people in the world are smokers and high TB ​​cases are found mostly in countries that multinational tobacco companies to expand its market.

According to their mathematical calculations, mortality among TB worldwide in the year 2010-2050 could exceed 40 million people. If current trends continue smokers, the rate of new cases will increase to 18 million.
