Fish Oil May Not Make Children Smart

There is some evidence to suggest that consuming fish oil during pregnancy can help the brain development of children. However, according to results of a Spanish study showed that fish oil does not mean making a high intellectual development when he was six years old.

The results are published in the American Journal of Nutrition Cinical it reinforces findings by scientists in Norway, which also found that there were no differences in IQ levels among children aged 7 years, both mothers took fish oil or not during pregnancy and lactation.
The researchers indeed found that children born to mothers with levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is high in blood cells when they are born, have the intelligence score above average when they were aged 7 years.
But, the big question, whether adding DHA on food intake of pregnant women were really helpful for the baby.
The researchers observed no significant effect of supplementation on cognitive function of children. However, maternal DHA status may affect cognitive function in later life iru.
In addition, DHA is abundant in maternal blood, could be derived not solely from fish oil supplements consumed during pregnancy. Very likely, DHA in the maternal blood derived from food is consumed long before the pregnancy.
The study also did not examine the intake of food consumed by the child after birth. For the nutritional intake of food also affect the child's later development.
Child's cognitive ability while also influenced by many factors, such as genetic, social stimulus, nutrition and others.
So whether pregnant women need fish oil supplements to their children smarter? Campoy, researchers from the University of Granada Spain it can not guarantee and there is no scientific evidence to ensure benefits for the baby. But he suggested that fish oil is still consumed by pregnant women .*
