Walking Prevent Brain Shrinking

New research on the brain wasting in the elderly suggests that exercise may be more beneficial than mentally stimulating activities and social.

The research team University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, delivered a conclusion after conducting a study of 638 people aged 70-something years.

They scanned the brains of study participants using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine the structural changes in the brain.



The scans showed that they were physically active had less brain wasting.

In addition to keeping part of the cerebral cortex, the part of the center of thought, exercise can help reduce the damage to the base ganglia.

Scientists say, sports are not required to heavy activity, but just walk a few times a week.

According to scientists, with exercise, increases blood flow to the brain so that adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients.

As a comparison, the scientists examined their mental exercises such as doing puzzles and playing chess. The results of these activities is minimal.
