Maintaining fitness and health are synonymous with sports. Various scientific studies also show a series of benefits of exercise for the body. However, sports have become a necessity for most people.
Classic reason given why people are reluctant to exercise regularly are lazy and do not have time. The reason it might make sense. But alias sedentary lifestyle are not physically active is very dangerous. Not just a sickness, but also the risk of death.
In a WHO research conducted in 2014, known to be physically active ranks fourth as a cause of death globally. No exercise is considered more dangerous than high cholesterol, obesity, or alcohol use.
"That exercise is now considered a disease. Physically active are also associated with a variety of chronic diseases and complications from obesity, diabetes, and cancer," said Dr.Benedict Tan, Medical Director of the Singapore Sports Medicine Centre in Jakarta (4/3 / 13).

In Singapore, according to Tan, nearly 40 percent of the population is not active or exercising less than once a week. "Compare that with the population in the Scandinavian countries of which 70 percent exercise more than three times a week," he said.
What about Indonesia? Not known with certainty, but in a Reuters poll conducted last year about 13 percent of the respondents are known to exercise at least three times a week with intensity over 20 minutes per workout.
According to Tan, to maintain fitness and prevent disease exercise is recommended 150 minutes per week or 30 minutes a day, five times a week.
"Exercise is done regularly every day is better because there are cumulative benefits when compared to exercise once a week but for longer duration," said Chairman of the National Task Force's Exercise is Medicine Singapore.
Various research continues to be done on the benefits of exercise in the prevention and treatment of disease. But the scientific evidence that did not also increase the population of people who exercise.
While many held a variety of sporting competitions, as running 10 km or marathon is now a trend. But Tan found a race like that just makes people who are active in sports are becoming increasingly active.
"The population of the target, ie, people who do not exercise, it is not terangkul," he said.
To encourage more people to exercise, Tan reveals the importance of educating people about the importance of sport and what the consequences are if you do not exercise. "Actually, the doctor could be the driving force for most patients still obey the doctor," he added.
In addition to health checks such as blood pressure monitor to measure or weigh, every patient should be treated also asked to exercise frequency. Then the doctor can recommend the types of exercises that should be done in accordance with the patient's body condition.
Tan added, healthy people and people who are suffering from the disease still need to exercise. "Sports are programmed and appropriate therapy the patient's condition can be a disease. Course of patients with hypertension and low back pain patients have a different training program," said the doctor who actively campaigned importance of Exercise is Medicine.
The effectiveness of exercise therapy in the prevention and treatment of disease must be balanced with lifestyle changes. "Although we exercise in the gym for an hour each day but remained sedentary lifestyle then useless. Every day we also have to keep active," he said.
