Heart disease is the leading cause of death in many countries. Some risk factors are beyond human control. However, some habits can be cut off the chain.
There are choices that can be made to improve heart health. One of them knows what not to do, such as smoking and maintaining the quality of rest well. However, some other bad habits are often forgotten.
The following are bad habits that can give birth to heart disease, quoted from Healthgrades, Monday (31/12).
Maintain Extra Weight
Being overweight is associated with several factors that increase the risk of heart disease, including high blood pressure. To maintain a healthy weight, try consuming half of each meal consisting of fruits and vegetables.
Excessive in Certain Meat
There is evidence that shows a high intake of red and processed meat such as sausages increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Research has shown that the more meat consumed, the higher the risk of heart problems.
Drink Soda
Soda also harms the heart. One study conducted on 2,500 people over 10 years found that those who regularly drank diet soda were more likely to have a stroke or heart attack. They also died of vascular disease even after the researchers controlled for factors such as smoking, exercise, sodium intake, and high cholesterol.
Soda with sweet taste is also potentially damaging. Research has shown that people who consume too much extra sugar, such as soda, have a higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
Sit for hours
Sitting regularly for several hours at a time can increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke, even if exercising regularly. Research has linked long sitting with obesity, high blood pressure, and an increased likelihood of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Experts think lack of activity affects the level of fat and sugar in the blood. A way to counteract risk is to move at any time, such as walking around the office.
