Most Calcium Not Good for the Heart?

Adequacy of calcium is essential for bone health and overall body. But according to a recent analysis, men who take calcium tablets every day are at risk of death from heart disease in a period of a decade.

The negative effects of calcium supplementation on heart it is a new beginning of the research. "Maybe the dose is consumed than is needed," said Howard Sesso of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

The study was based on a study of 400,000 Americans aged middle. The study was conducted between the years 1995-1996.

The study participants answered questions about lifestyle, general health, diet, including supplements consumed. Then their health tracked, including the number of people who have died and the cause, in a period of 12 years.

Half of the men and more than two-thirds of women said they were taking calcium supplements or multivitamins containing calcium.

In the study period of almost 12,000 people, or about three per cent, died of heart disease.



Researchers from the National Cancer Institute found that men who drank facts 1000 milligrams of calcium per day or more, 20 percent are at risk of dying from heart disease compared with those who did not take calcium.
