More than 70 dishes presented in Houston archipelago in Indonesia Culinary Festival held Consulate General of Indonesia in Houston, United States, November 15, 2014.
"The menu is typical of Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke, almost all can be discovered and enjoyed by people of Houston, this culinary richness symbolizes the diversity and richness of Indonesian culture," said Consul General of Indonesia in Houston Henk Saroinsong through a release on Sunday (16/11).
The festival was attended by more than 1,000 local communities, representatives of Indonesian Diaspora, and Friends of Indonesia. Some visitors even willing to travel from out of town like Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Louisiana to come and enjoy Indonesian food.
"Food Indonesia is one of the best food in the world, I do not regret coming from far away," said Megan who came from Dallas, a four-hour drive from Houston.
Indonesian activities Culinary Festival is the first Indonesian culinary festival in Houston that aims to support the promotion of Indonesian cuisine to the international community.
This event introduces Indonesian food which is divided into four zones, namely Zone area of Java and Madura, Zone Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi Zone and Zone Bali, NTT, NTB, Maluku and Papua. Each zone featuring food and beverages as well as its local cultural wealth.
The festival featured menus become regular customers festivals such as rendang, fried rice, satay chicken satay padang and Madura, and rarely seen in the US as warm Yogya, cotto Makassar, green bananas, chicken cicane, chicken betutu, lalampa and Panada, satay, chicken and fish asr glutton.
The festival also introduce Indonesian products are well received by the local community, such as instant noodle, chili roa bitchy, Andri's Tempe and Gooday Coffee. Some community organizations also opened a booth to introduce and explain the Indonesian culture.
Besides food, the event also presents a variety of local and national Indonesian songs to entertain the participants of the festival, performances of angklung, Jaipur dance, dance tube, dance laleng, and rocking poco poco.
This culinary festival also managed to raise a fund of US $ 1,235 was organized by the Indonesian Diaspora Foundation (IDF) to be donated for the construction of several bridges in disadvantaged areas in Indonesia.
