Mango is a fruit-laden super vitamins and has a variety of disease prevention properties. Recent research suggests the content of polyphenols in mango potentially prevent obesity by lowering blood sugar levels.
This delicious fruit is also known to trigger inflammatory reactions against cancer. Study
presented at the Experimental Biology 2013 conference mentions,
increased levels of blood sugar can lead to diabetes or obesity.
Polyphenols are a type of micronutrients found in plants. Several studies have linked polyphenols with disease prevention benefits.
Including
mango polyphenol-rich fruits, including types such as mangiferin
antioxidants that will boost metabolism and fight diabetes, inflammatory
and quercetin against hypertension, and kaempferol which inhibit the
growth of cancer.
Dr.Edralin Lucas of Oklahoma University conducted a study of 20 obese people. They were given 10 grams of dried mango to be consumed every day for 12 weeks.
At the end of the study period, the participants' blood sugar levels were measured and found to decrease significantly. Even so there was no difference in body fat levels.
Lucas
describes the results of this study are consistent with animal studies
showing mango consumption lowers blood sugar levels in mice fed a
high-fat meal.
Meanwhile another study will be conducted by Dr.Susanne mangoes Mertens-Talcott of Texas A & M University. He
was found in a mango polyphenols inhibit the inflammatory response in
cancer and non cancer cells are isolated in the laboratory.
However, Mertens-Talcott's research remains to be followed up with studies in humans.
Yet
this study confirms previous studies which revealed that mango
polyphenols inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells and reduce tumor
size in mice. Specific content called gallotannins also help kill colon cancer cells without damaging healthy cells.
