Got a problem with your weight? Medical scientists are trying to find an easy solution to weight loss, especially for obese people with a microchip.
Recently, scientists from the British developed a microchip that can be implanted in the nerves to curb appetite.
"This is a very small microchip chip has intelligence that can model the neural signals that are responsible for controlling appetite," said the professor at Imperial College London and one of the inventors of the chip, Chris Toumazou.
Chip few millimeters wide will be attached to the vagus nerve in the abdominal cavity using a cuff electrode.
Vagus nerve on duty to control speech and swallowing, reduced heart rate, and monitor the process of digestion.
The researchers claim these chips will be more efficient and less expensive than the weight loss surgery for the obese person.
The research team has already developed a similar technology called MIMATE, which is currently being tested to help children with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
MIMATE read chemical signals sent from the brain toward the affected organs, such as the hand that had a stroke, and then sends impulses to stimulate organ. The goal is to help patients gain dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
What differentiates between MIMATE and chip weight loss because this new device does not send impulses to stimulate. Chip weight loss will only read the electrical signals and chemicals produced in the nerves associated with appetite.
"It then reads and sends signals to the brain to suppress appetite," says Toumazou.
