Coconut Oil Help Prevent Alzheimer's , Myth or Fact

Coconut oil has been used since hundreds of years ago . Besides its use as a cooking oil , coconut oil is also known to have good effects on health , including preventing and treating Alzheimer's disease .
Alzheimer's is a disease that attacks the brain , causing cognitive decline in the ability to smooth muscle . So sufferers also experience a significant decrease in quality of life .
According to Dr. Manny Alvarez , health practitioners from New York University School of Medicine in the United States , producing the kind of coconut oil fatty acid called kaprilik . The fat is then broken down into substances called ketone bodies .
Ketone bodies that later becomes an alternative energy source for brain cells that have lost the ability to use glucose as a source of nutrition . " That is a theory that may explain the benefits of coconut oil as a deterrent of Alzheimer's , " said Alvarez .

Meanwhile , an expert on herbal medicines from the U.S. Chris Kilham said , there is a new study that reveals a little more coconut oil as a potential Alzheimer's drugs . The laboratory -scale studies indicate changes in cell behavior of beta- amyloid plaques after being given ketone bodies derived from coconut oil . Beta- amyloid plaque cells are the cell type that accumulates in the brains of Alzheimer's sufferers .
Kilham said , researchers from the University of South Florida Health Byrd Alzheimer 's Institute recently studying the effects of coconut oil in a small group of people with Alzheimer's are categorized as clinical testing . However, there is no scientific evidence supporting the benefits of coconut oil in Alzheimer's disease .
" Maybe coconut oil is beneficial , but we do not know for sure , " says Kilham .
Furthermore Kilham explains , in some small studies , people who regularly consume virgin coconut oil ( VCO ) every day tend to have a lower risk of developing Alzheimer's disease . Even the state of Alzheimer's patients was improved after doing so .
Nevertheless, Kilham insists , a new study conducted on a small scale . As well , there is not enough scientific evidence to explain the mechanism , so that the oil can not be recommended as an Alzheimer's drug .
Alvarez said , there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease , but proper treatment is helpful in slowing the decline in cognitive ability to improve the quality of life of patients .
