Value Losses Due to Smoking Too Big

Losses due to smoking was not only in terms of health, but also the economy. State finances could be jeopardized because of continued swelling health care costs arising from tobacco-related statement, (PTR).
Costs would be borne by smoking too large if compared to the amount of income of the tobacco product. Based on data from the Health Research and Development in 2010, the amount of revenue from the cigarette tax is Rp. 55 trillion. While expenditures reached USD macro from cigarettes. 245.41 trillion.
These expenses consist of the purchase of cigarettes, medical care should be lived, and lost productivity. Highest occupied portion of the cigarette purchase of Rp. 138 trillion. The second position is occupied damages due to loss of productivity due to disability and death of a young age, amounting to Rp. 105.3 trillion. Occupied the third rank loss due to medical care, both inpatient and way of Rp. 2.11 trillion.

Director of PT. Askes Indonesia Tbk Fahmi Idris said, the costs continue to rise due to PTR. PTR consists of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ischemic heart disease and lung cancer.
"This figure continues to increase compared to previous years. Currently out due to the cost of the PTR Askes Rp. 39.5 trillion, with an average amount of 100 thousand cases per year, "said Fahmi in the discussion, titled 'Financing Health Problems And Smoking Related Diseases, Responsibility, Anyone?' Thursday (10/31/2013) yesterday.
This figure can actually be reduced if the cigarette tax could be used for health care costs both promotive, preventive, or curative. Obtained from the cigarette excise tax is not used for the construction and sources of income. Fahmi advised the government to learn from Thailand who already implement this system.
Fahmi said the funds will be very meaningful for promotive and preventive efforts related to smoking restrictions. "Currently, we are already doing promotive and preventive, but is mass. As for the cigarettes, the more individual needs to suit the character of each person, "said Fahmi.
The same thing is said PB-IDI Chairman, Dr. Zainal Abidin, MH. According to him, the losses caused by smoking should also be borne by the tobacco companies. These employers should be responsible for the pain of consumers of cigarettes smoked. In this way the burden of the state due to the PTR can be helped. "We should have specific rules related to the use of cigarette tax for health care costs. Tobacco companies likely will not lose, because the tendency of novice smokers tend to increase each year, "said Zainal.
