Although experts have advised to chew food until soft , not a few of us do not do it . In fact , according to a new study , the activity can also help you lose weight .

Researchers from Iowa State University found that the addition of chewing time can reduce calorie intake obtained from food . The findings of the study also supports previous findings that suggested that people with a longer time eating in general tend to be slimmer .

The study, published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics analyze the quantity of food to chew on the number of calories diasup , and its influence on body weight . According to study researcher Constance Brown - Riggs of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics , chewing longer will give someone the opportunity to enjoy the texture and taste of food better .

In the study , the researchers recruited participants with normal weight , excessive , and obesity . Participants were asked to consume lime serving pizza and asked how many times they chew .

On different occasions , participants were then given 60 slices of pizza and asked to eat until they are full . On the occasion, the participants were asked to chew the food as much as they can .

Furthermore , in a second chance , they were again asked to eat until satisfied but by increasing the amount of chew as much as 50 percent . Until the third occasion , they were asked to chew doubled .

Researchers concluded that the addition of the chew can reduce calorie intake . Currently 50 percent more chewing , participants ate 10 percent or 70 fewer calories than before . When chewing doubled, participants ate 15 percent fewer calories or 112 .

According to several experts , longer meal times will make the body a chance to realize that he was satisfied . " Twenty minutes is the time it takes the body to recognize satiety , " says Brown - Riggs .

He said that when people eat less than 20 minutes , the body feel full when in fact it has not already . Therefore , eating in a short time can lead to obesity .
