Eating Vegetables and Fruits Can Reduce Depression

THE New Zealand researchers found a link between eating fruits and vegetables in large quantities, with happy feelings.

"These findings suggest that fruit and vegetable intake associated with other aspects of human development, is more than just a feeling of happiness," wrote lead researcher, psychologist from the University of Otago, Tamlin Conner.

In a study published in the British Journal of Health Psychology, researchers included 405 students as participants.

During 13 days in a row they noted akitivitas eat in a diary, ranging from the number of servings of fruit and vegetables per day, desserts to various potato dishes.

The participants also filled out daily questionnaires to measure creativity, curiosity, and their psychological development.

They also answer additional questions designed to measure their general emotional state that day.

The results showed that participants who ate fruits and vegetables in large quantities for more than 13 days, have a curiosity, creativity, positive emotions higher than the average person. So also with their involvement in a particular activity.

They tend to get higher scores on this scale all while eating fruits and vegetables in large quantities.

"We can not conclude the relationship between fruit and vegetable consumption and welfare eudaemonia (flavors) are cause and effect," the researchers said as quoted by the Huffington Post and Reuters.

According to them, there is the possibility of positive feelings of the mind involved so that people become healthier foods.

"On the other hand, the micronutrient content of foods may provide an explanation for the current findings," the researchers wrote.

"Many fruits and vegetables contain the amount of vitamin C is higher that an important factor in producing dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is the underlying motivation and engagement, "they said.

In addition, the researchers showed that the antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body that play a role against depression.
