Corn oil More Effectively Lower Cholesterol

Consumption of corn oil was more effective in lowering bad cholesterol than pure olive oil. This is evidenced in penellitian conducted in the United States and has been published by the Journal of Clinical Lipidology the January-February 2015.

The researchers found that corn oil can reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or bad cholesterol in the body as much as 11 percent compared with pure olive oil that is only 3.5 percent. Corn oil also lowers total cholesterol more than 8 percent compared to pure olive oil by about 2 percent.
The study involved 54 men and women were divided into two groups. The first group was given four tablespoons pure olive oil and a second group with corn oil. The researchers then took blood samples before and after the oil consumption.

According to this study, corn oil is more effective in reducing cholesterol levels because it contains a number of sterols are more than pure olive oil. Sterols are substances that are found in nuts and seeds.
In equal portions, corn oil is known to contain 136 milligrams of olive oil sterols and sterol only 30 milligrams. Research has shown that plant sterols play an important role to create a healthy heart.

"These findings support previous research that showed corn oil beneficial for heart health," said lead researcher of Biofortis doctor Kevin C. Maki.

As is known, people who have high cholesterol risk of heart disease. It is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, approximately 600,000 Americans die of heart disease each year.
