Sweet drinks Accelerate Early Menstrual Period

A study published in the journal Human Reproduction revealed, girls who often consume sugary drinks tend to have menstrual periods earlier than those who do not.

To arrive at this conclusion, researchers from Harvard Medical School in the United States researched as much as 5583 girls, aged 9-14 years between 1996 and 2001.

The researchers found that girls who consume sugary drinks more than 1.5 servings a day entering the first menstrual period of 2.7 months earlier than those who consume less.

"Our research shows, the age when women entered the mestruasi of them occur in women who consume drinks with added sugar," said study leader, Karin Michels, as reported by the Indian Express, Monday (2/2).

He said, drinks with added sugar have a higher glycemic index than natural sweet drinks such as fruit juice. This led to a rapid increase in the concentration of insulin in the body.

Higher insulin concentrations may increase the concentration of sex hormones higher associated with menstrual periods earlier.
