Breadfruit Leaf Tea Help Cure Kidney Disease

Two students of Gadjah Mada University Suhartono and Retno Wulandari develop herbal medicine in the form of tea from the leaves of breadfruit. Breadfruit leaf tea is able to help heal the sick kidneys and heart.

"In laboratory tests and research, breadfruit leaves contain various elements of a natural chemical that the human body needs, one of which contains flavonoids and sitosterol is beneficial to keep the heart from damage to the cardiovascular system as well as beneficial for the healing of kidney disease," said Suhartono, in Sleman, on Thursday ( 19/1).

Suhartono and Retno developing and producing breadfruit leaf herbal tea at his home in the village of Purwomartani, Kalasan District, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This time the tea was able to penetrate markets outside the region.

"Generally, for most people, breadfruit leaves it does not have the value and benefits. However we develop it and make it as an herbal drink tea bag that has many benefits. The leaves of breadfruit dry more easily distributed to the consumer, so that it can dikonsmsi by all elements of society, parents youth and children, to acquire properties, "he said.

He said that since pioneered in 2013 breadfruit leaf herbal tea processing has evolved and today has become a household industry. Its production capacity reaches 25 to 30 boxes each day.

"Teabags breadfruit leaves Laasyaka has penetrated almost all islands in Indonesia. In one month at least 400 to 600 boxes can be marketed. Price herbal tea leaves of breadfruit is per box Rp 20 thousand which contains 20 tea bags ready for brewing. Currently the turnover average -rata per month between Rp 8 million to Rp 10 million, "he said.

Suhartono said, a way of processing the tea leaves of breadfruit is quite simple. The leaves that have been aged picked directly from the tree and then washed clean. "After that, the breadfruit leaf cut into small pieces, and then dried in the sun to dry out so easily crushed. After it was packaged in teabag form," he said.
