Powerful High-Dose Vitamin C Against Cancer Cells

Vitamin C is a good vitamin to help you ward off colds, viruses, and info, can also treat cancer.

The new study not only confirms the ability of vitamin C in cancer fighting vitamins, but also reveals how high-dose vitamin C vitamin C can be harmful to cancer cells, but not harmful to healthy cells.

According to new research was published online in the journal Redox Biology, researchers from the University of Iowa found that vitamin C easily damaged, creating hydrogen peroxide, a reactive oxygen species that cause damage to the tissues and DNA.

However, according to research, cancer cells are much more capable of removing hydrogen peroxide is compared to healthy cells is normal.

As a result, the team believes that high doses of vitamin C administered intravenously can be effective in helping fight cancer when used in conjunction with chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

"In this study we proved that cancer cells are much more efficient at removing hydrogen peroxide dibamding normal cells. Thus, cancer cells are much more susceptible to damage and death caused by hydrogen peroxide in high levels," said Garry Buettner , professor of radiation oncology and a member of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa were also involved in this research project.

"This study also memerlihatkan how high doses of vitamin C used in the clinical trial does not affect normal tissue, it can damage the tumor tissue," said Buettner again.

According to the study, high doses of vitamin C administered intravenously (through a vein) can go directly to the stomach, so that the nutrients are more likely to enter the bloodstream.

The researchers plan to test the treatment in patients with pancreatic and lung cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, to see if there is an increase in positive results if the therapy is accompanied by the provision of high-dose vitamin C.

This is not the first time that scientists recognize the ability of vitamin C in the fight against cancer.

In 2015, a study published in the journal Science found that vitamin C is also useful in treating cancer cells that is mutated in colorectal cancer patients who do not respond to other treatment types.

The team hopes that one day, high doses of vitamin C could become standard treatment for fighting cancer, so patients have a more secure and effective to fight their disease.
